How about renaming LICENSE.txt file to LICENSE to be consistent and
making COPYING a link (just an ln -s LICENSE COPYING) to it?  Autoconf
/ automake needs COPYING.

I have been reviewing the build system and there are some suggestions
on the way... :-)
