A completely fresh install built crystal-clear on my machine, and we know
the bug was caused by a bleeding-edge version of an as-yet-unreleased
Xerces.  As such, I feel OK with this part.

Do you think we need an official RC cycle for an alpha?  Sam can perhaps
speak more to what other projects do in this regard, but it seems to me that
just kicking the tires a few times is good enough for a first cut.  If there
are problems, I'll update the file, but otherwise I think let's "do it"....
