well, -r HEAD  means latest but I think you've already
done that.  Don't you want to checkin on the alpha branch?

I cannot, however, seem to figure out how to merge the couple of changes I
made on the main branch onto the alpha-1 branch (I can go the other way,
though).  Any of you CVS-wizards have a clue?  Is there a tag that by
default means "latest on the main branch"?
