Subject Re: Build failure - TestSimpleChain.java test

Sam,

With log4j v1.1.3 I get the build break below. I guess Gump was lucky and
used an earlier version of log4j.

    [javac] /home/norm/axis/xml-axis/java/test/chains/TestSimpleChain.java:115: cannot resolve
symbol
    [javac] symbol : variable OFF
    [javac] location: class org.apache.log4j.Priority
    [javac]             category.setPriority(Priority.OFF);
    [javac] ^
    [javac] 1 error

BUILD FAILED

I was going to code a patch but can't decide how to fix it:

Pre-req. log4j 1.1.3 and revert to the previous form of the "silencer"
code - will disrupt users and require a change to the Axis Gump setup.
Make the "silencer" code apply to multiple, incompatible versions of
   log4j - nasty and error-prone.
Remove the silencer code and live with the fatal error being logged
during the tests - could confuse new users.
Replace category.fatal with category.error in InternalException - could
be regarded as an admission of defeat.

Which would you prefer? Or any better ideas?

Thanks,

Glyn
