Patrick Bannister commented on CASSANDRA-10190:
-----------------------------------------------

In discussion on the cassandra-dev list, a consensus formed around maintaining support for
Python 2.

I'm working on making the cqlsh port to Python 3 cross-compatible with Python 2.7. The goal
is a single cross-compatible implementation. I'm making progress and I suspect the port will
be the easy part. Getting testing infrax right to support both versions will probably be more
complex.

> Users who operate in a Python 3 environment may have trouble launching cqlsh. Could we
please update cqlsh's syntax to run in Python 3?
> As a workaround, users can setup pyenv, and cd to a directory with a .python-version
containing "2.7". But it would be nice if cqlsh supported modern Python versions out of the
box.
