Results in:

org.apache.xalan.xslt.XSLProcessorException: pattern = '//tablehead/thcol[position() = last()]/position()'
     Unknown nodetype: position

A valid construct is:

'//tablehead/thcol[position() = last()][position()]'

which is the same as
'//tablehead/thcol[last()]'

and I get the content of the last node
