I don't know what you've attempted so far, but I think the following
will work (warning: pseudo code):

XMLByteStreamCompiler comp = new XMLByteStreamCompiler();
String mytext = "piet snot";
comp.characters(mytext.toCharArray(), 0, mytext.length());
Object compiledSAX = comp.getSAXFragment();
