Well, forget about adding an error. I'm just going to fix the filename and document that the encoding option is ignored when the image isn't edited since that is also the behavior for the gallery. Camera returns a JPEG and gallery returns the image file that was requested (whatever format it might be). Looking at the README, we tend to just ignore unsupported stuff instead of failing.
