Subject [jira] [Commented] (CRUNCH-181) UUID PType support for Writables
Date Wed, 20 Mar 2013 18:17:15 GMT

Josh Wills commented on CRUNCH-181:

Hey Micah,

What do you think about doing this as a derived type for a Pair<Long, Long>-- sort of
like how we do BigInteger support in o.a.c.types.PTypes? Then we get the support for both
Avro and Writable type families.

> UUID is a pretty basic and common datatype used for identifiers. It'd be nice if there
was support through Writables.uuids() similar to other common data types.
> The lack of support is most likely due to the lack of formal UUIDWritable support in
Hadoop itself but a UUIDWritable implementation has been posted for awhile[1] and seems pretty
trivial to even roll your own and incorporate.
