Subject RE: [VOTE] Release Apache cTAKES 3.1 (rc3)
Date Tue, 03 Sep 2013 13:51:20 GMT

I assume people who want the source release rather than trunk know they want the source release
for the various policy reasons people want a source *release*.

And if they don't want the binary release, and are savvy enough to use eclipse or an IDE of
their own choice, then trunk seems reasonable to suggest to me.

Not saying that is the right way of thinking, just explaining my thoughts.

I can review the changes to the Wiki later today.

I went ahead and modified the use of Concept in the wiki (#6 below), if
anyone wants to do a quick proof-read that would be helpful
Thanks to James and to Troy who did a lot of the work on the
documentation already so this was a pretty easy change despite the
scary-looking wiki syntax.

One more question -- the user install guide points the user to the
binary zip/tgz files, and the developer guide points the developer to
the svn trunk, and as far as I can tell nobody is being pointed to
-src.zip/tgz. Are we pointing all developers at trunk? Do we need
guidelines for who should be working off of trunk and who should be
working off of the source release? I assume the source release is for
people who want more stable base if they are building something of their
own, but it's not clear in the install guides who should download what
and at what point that changes the install instructions.

I think the example we use there -- Concept -- is probably not the greatest. I believe that
is an internal type to the assertion tool, but it might sound to a newcomer like the main
entity type. Since this type doesn't contain much additional info it may mislead about the
capabilities of cTAKES. (It would be best to rename or remove that type going forward but
for now at least our tutorial should avoid mentioning it.
