Change that first line to use a PreparedStatement, rather than a
Statement, so it becomes:

PreparedStatement ps = conn.prepareStatement("select * from prototypes
where prototype_id=?");
ps.setInt(1, Candidate_ID);
rs = ps.executeQuery();
