Ok, the real problem seems to be the paging.
As long as I the number of loaded items (click on ou=groups and hit F5) is less than the threshold
for paging, the quick search works fine (with the selected base) and it's item appears inline.
If however, there are too many items, and it is paging, the quick search item doesn't get
