Subject [jira] [Commented] (HADOOP-9768) chown and chgrp reject users and groups with spaces on platforms where spaces are otherwise acceptable
Date Tue, 30 Jul 2013 17:33:51 GMT

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-9768?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=13724129#comment-13724129

Chris Nauroth commented on HADOOP-9768:

At this point, I've committed the patch to all relevant branches: trunk, branch-2, branch-2.1-beta,
branch-1, and branch-1-win. However, this did not make it to branch-2.1-beta in time for
the 2.1.0-beta RC. I need to set Fix Version to 2.1.1-beta, but that isn't listed. I've
emailed common-dev asking a jira admin to create that. I'm going to keep this issue open
until I can set the correct Fix Version.

> The chown and chgrp commands enforce a check on a valid set of characters for user and
group. The set of valid characters does not include space. On some platforms (notably Windows),
the space character is acceptable.  We've seen this cause test failures in {{TestFsShellReturnCode}}
when running on Windows if the logged-in user is a member of a group like Remote Desktop Users.
