tried it also,
I believe in my case the encoded region name
is faa7f7c8d63a9d2e04566c4a97090899

and result:

hbase(main):004:0> split 'faa7f7c8d63a9d2e04566c4a97090899'

                                                   │····


                                                   │····
ERROR: Unknown table faa7f7c8d63a9d2e04566c4a97090899!

                                                    │····
