> If you create a table stored as avro and try to do select count(*) against the table
it will fail. The following shows this. Empty table in this situation is a table with no files.

> {code}
> hive> create table j2 (a int) stored as avro;
> OK
> Time taken: 1.069 seconds
> hive> select count(*) from j2;
> Query ID = johndee_20150915113434_d4fe99d4-7fb9-42fe-9b91-ad560eeacc48
> Total jobs = 1
> Launching Job 1 out of 1
> Number of reduce tasks determined at compile time: 1
> In order to change the average load for a reducer (in bytes):
>   set hive.exec.reducers.bytes.per.reducer=<number>
> In order to limit the maximum number of reducers:
>   set hive.exec.reducers.max=<number>
> In order to set a constant number of reducers:
>   set mapreduce.job.reduces=<number>
