going back to your php issue..

what you have configured is very vague since you didn't quote specifically
what you had for the mime-type.

Something like this:

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .php3 .php4 .phtml

php3 must be part of the list, not just php.

As far as this localhost errors, they are getting kind of far off topic
and you might want to try a mailng list or IRC channel geared towards your
specific OS.

I would check ifconfig -a and see what it says but if you aren't familiar
with what the output is supposed to look like that isn't going to be
useful. Getting into that kind of detail here would be a disservice to
those who are expecting apache based email.
