Okay I tried that but this is what happens

# ./configure --with-ssl=/opt/openssl-0.9.6g
--with-apxs=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs
Configuring for Apache, Version 1.3.27
 + using installation path layout: Apache (config.layout)
configure:Error: invalid option '--with-ssl=/opt/openssl-0.9.6g'

use the toplevel Openssl dir:

--with-ssl=/opt/openssl-0.9.6g
