Thanks for the advice, I installed apache and the php4 module through the
debian intstall utility, so it takes care of the version dependencies. I
finally found someone else with the same problem, and it is Bug#225056, see
http://lists.debian.org/debian-apache/2003/debian-apache-200312/threads.html#00210

It has been reassigned to the php4 module.

Thanks again, hope someone can fix it eventually :-)

Did you recompile mod_php (and all other modules) against the new apache
when you upgraded to 1.3.29? If you use an old .so file (compiled
against a previous apache version) it will probably seg fault.
