Actually, for 401 error docs, you can't use an absolute URL.

A common way of dealing with this is to auth-protect your docroot, but
use an Alias to map an unprotected area into the doc space.  For

<Directory /usr/local/apache2/htdocs>
require valid-user
ErrorDocument 401 /errors/401.html
Alias /errors /usr/local/apache2/errors
<Directory /usr/local/apache2/errors>
Order deny,allow
Allow from all
