Yes. I thought of extending the inputText component, but I was hoping for a
straightforward way and I thought it was using DWR.  But it looks like it
will take some time, so I will leave this for another time.  But definitely
an interesting project to do.

If you understand the rendering process well, creating your own new
component could be the easiest way. Just extends the component you want,
implements ActionSource, create a renderer extending the parent component
uses to add processDecode and renderScript copied from commandButton
renderer.
