Tthese are all working the way they're intended, meaning they will support
relative paths that are based on the block's directory.  This means the
/var/ directory would go in the /apps/james/, which I think is desirable.

The problem #12 is that the JDBC store doesn't know where the
sqlResources.xml is (so you have to start Avalon in a parent directory,
e.g., dist/bin/run.sh).  It should find the sqlResources.xml file using the
same conventions as the other file:// paths. (so really, just getting that
first example working is what I meant)
