This is a reasonably complex subject, the two things you need to know about
are MIME type multipart, and JavaMail.
The first defines the structure of non-trivial messages, the second
provides a java API for accessing this structure as an object model.
Try examining the code for James supplied mailets, especially "AddFooter"
for examples.
