Well I you look at the phoenix-bin in trunk it is exactly the same as in the 
old branch_2_1_fcs also starting the trunk-James gives states Phoenix 4.0.1, 
so...

Hmmm, it is sitting here on my disk :-) I downloaded it from ASF a while back 
(February 18. 2004 to be exact), but the download pages seams gone with the 
project :-(  I can point you to a mirror here:
http://www.axint.net/apache/avalon/phoenix/v4.0.4/

Do you by any chance know why ASF has removed Avalon,Phoenix and related 
downloads. As we keep saying, even while the Avalon project has died, the 
code is still fine. So there would be no reason to disable downloads of the 
released versions. 
Dead projects code could/should be moved to some area for unsupported code or 
something, "ASF Cemetary" perhaps :-)

Also totally unrelated, I noticed that the James home page states:
"James requires Java 1.4", again have I missed a consensus on demanding 1.4 I 
thought that was scheduled for a future release.
