Subject [jira] Updated: (JAMES-526) Add VERP support to JAMES, e.g., to the list manager
Date Sat, 10 Jun 2006 00:50:30 GMT

Noel J. Bergman updated JAMES-526:

    Attachment: VERP.java

Generic VERP matching code, with test matchers for the ASF's ezmlm format, DJB's VERP document,
and an iNovem format sample. An improved version of the code originally contributed 3 years
ago. Even this code is almost that old.

> Add VERP support to JAMES, e.g., to the list manager
> ----------------------------------------------------
> Key: JAMES-526
> URL: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/JAMES-526
> Project: James
> Type: New Feature

> Components: Matchers/Mailets (bundled)
> Reporter: Noel J. Bergman
> Attachments: VERP.java
> Aaron Johnson's article [1] on VERP and JAMES reminded me that some million years or
so ago -- OK 2003 -- I posted [2] VERP matching code that I intended to contribute to JAMES.
It got stripped, and never did make it into the mailing list package.
> As Aaron shows, adding VERP support to the mailing list manager is pretty straight forward,
and the code I am attaching provides, or is intended to provide, general purpose VERP matching,
so adding bounce recognition should not be difficult, either. The interesting thing would
then be to improve the mailing list system to automatically disable or unsubscribe users who
are no longer addressable, based upon the VERP returns.
