I don't know if/when we can effort a fully tested labeled-as-stable
spring release.

Although it is not too difficult to wire the needed class path and run
from IDE it would just be nice to have a unique platform for repeatable
smoke tests.

I find the whole James-running-with-Spring thing really exciting. 

There are many things like processor/mailet configuration, or
handlerchain etc, that could be done so nicely with spring.
Maybe we could even try to run spring inside phoenix for this tasks. :-)

Having a Spring build would enable us to push the POJOification of James
forward. Goal: Make the ServiceManagerBridge superfluous!
Moving James to Spring means making James more container agnostic. This
would make it easier to run James in container foo.

The Spring build is also a big step to running James with OSGi... 
No limits! :-)

Running it directly from IDE in debugger is fun. :-)

That would be a good first step.
