repository.send ? do you mean .store ?

> mail.setState(Mail.GHOST);

Why do you GHOST the mail after storing a copy in the sent items?
Shouldn't you leave it going through the chain and reach the
RemoteDelivery ? (or the LocalDelivery if it was directed locally)
