Subject [jira] Commented: (MIME4J-5) Mime4j takes really long to parse big messages
Date Tue, 08 Jul 2008 21:26:31 GMT

Robert Burrell Donkin commented on MIME4J-5:
--------------------------------------------

We have

 private void advanceToBoundary() throws IOException {
        if (!dataStream.eof()) {
            byte[] tmp = new byte[2048];
            while (dataStream.read(tmp)!= -1) {
            }
        }
    }

AIUI whatever is written to tmp is just ignored. Couldn't this (thinking of performance) just
be a shared buffer rather than created new each time?

> Mime4j has general demonstrable performance problems:

> I'd suggest a general code review for the "byte at a time + buffered input stream" anti-pattern
> and general refactoring to do things in blocks where possible.
