Subject [jira] [Commented] (KYLIN-1351) Support common RDBMS as data source in Kylin
Date Wed, 27 Jan 2016 05:02:40 GMT

Shaofeng SHI commented on KYLIN-1351:

Hi Edward,

Kylin is not going to create the tool, and there is already such tools; Kylin just need leverage
them to do this. Once the data is in HDFS, Kylin can do the calculation as today.

Besides, it is possible that the "export" + "create intermediate table" steps can be combined
together: Kylin send the joined SQL directly to RDBMS, and then the result set be exported
to HDFS. After the cube be built, the intermediate files are dropped from HDFS.

This task is call for community contribution; Anyone can try if want.

> From v2.0, Kylin's plug-in architecture makes it possible to have multiple data sources,
cube engines and storages. Some users ever aksed that whether Kylin support source data feeded
from RDBMS like Oracle, MySQL, now it is possible to do that. Some tools like Apache Sqoop
can easily export data from RDBMS to HDFS, that would help Kylin get the data and then build
that into cubes.
