Yes, I suppose creating a log4j channel would also create the expectation
that someone would always be there to answer questions.  Certainly the
mailing lists and bug database keep people busy enough.

The IRC thing would probably be fun at first.  And then we would notice
that we have the same discussion every 30 minutes.  As our sanity gradually
wore away, we'd be snapping at everyone who asked a FAQ, everyone who asked
for a feature, everyone who asked whether they should use jlog or log4j,
and most annoyingly, everyone who asked if they could ask a question. :)

Hello Paul,

IRC is cool even if can be a huge time sink. Email has many advantages. It
is persistent, mailings lists are archived, and you can take your time when
replying. IRC does not have these qualities.

I already spend too much of my time reading/writing email. A new
communication channel is unlikely to help my situation. Otherwise you are
