The assignment has no effect.

Change: 
  public synchronized void setTimeZone(TimeZone timeZone) {
    timeZone = timeZone;
    configure();
  }

To:
   public synchronized void setTimeZone(TimeZone timeZone) {
    this._timeZone = timeZone;
    configure();
  }

In version 1.2.12
