There is very little chance Log4j 1.x is ever going to upgrade to Java 5. I
have been working on Log4j 2.0 in an experimental branch which addresses this
issue as well as many others, including some design defects that are present in
Logback. Unfortunately, Log4j 2.0 still needs a fair amount of work. Volunteers
are welcome!
