Subject [jira] [Commented] (SOLR-2204) Cross-version replication broken by new javabin format
Date Sun, 14 Aug 2011 18:52:32 GMT

Shawn Heisey commented on SOLR-2204:

bq. I was looking at this and have a half-baked untried patch which handles the client side
of the negotiation, but before spending more time on it I was hoping to get some opinions.

I worked around this in my own installation by modifying my build system. It can now run
two independent copies, one for each set of shards. By the time I was ready for that, 3.2
was out. When I upgraded one of the sets, I eliminated replication and began building them
independently. I'm still running that way, even after upgrading both sets to 3.2. It's actually
been advantageous, because I now have a full-scale testbed. Before I could run tests with
a single shard on independent hardware, now I can do it on the entire index because the offline
set is built independently.

Thank you for looking into the problem. Hopefully it will save someone a lot of headache
in the future.

> Slave server is branch_3x, revision 1027974. Master server is 1.4.1. Replication fails
because of the new javabin format.
> SEVERE: Master at: http://HOST:8983/solr/live/replication is not available. Index fetch
failed. Exception: Invalid version or the data in not in 'javabin' format
> Switching Solr's internally generated requests to XML, or adding support for both javabin
versions would get rid of this problem. I do not know how to do either of these things.
