I mean where the user has placed a prefix and "!" in front of a key value. Granted, it isn't
explicitly stating the shard, and is really simply a "surrogate" key value to use for sharding.
Is there better terminology for the fact that they used the "!" notation?

Question for Noble: If a shard field is specified and there is a "!" on a document key, which
takes precedence?
