Subject [jira] [Created] (SOLR-11873) Use time based expiration cache in all places in HdfsDirectoryFactory
Date Thu, 18 Jan 2018 15:50:00 GMT
Mihaly Toth created SOLR-11873:
----------------------------------

Summary: Use time based expiration cache in all places in HdfsDirectoryFactory
                 Key: SOLR-11873
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-11873
             Project: Solr
          Issue Type: Bug
Security Level: Public (Default Security Level. Issues are Public)
          Components: hdfs
    Affects Versions: 7.2
            Reporter: Mihaly Toth

{{HdfsDirectoryFactory.exists()}} method already applies caching on FileSystem objects. This
is not done yet in the {{size()}} method.

This function is eventually used when querying the core status. Each and every query will
use the same configuration and start from the first configured HDFS NameNode. If that is down
Solr will always access this down node first without "learning".

It would be nice to apply the same caching on that function too.
