Subject [jira] [Created] (LUCENE-8645) Add fixed field intervals
Date Thu, 17 Jan 2019 13:47:00 GMT
Alan Woodward created LUCENE-8645:
-------------------------------------

             Summary: Add fixed field intervals
                 Key: LUCENE-8645
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LUCENE-8645
             Project: Lucene - Core
          Issue Type: Improvement
            Reporter: Alan Woodward
            Assignee: Alan Woodward

It can be useful to report intervals from one fields as if they came from another.  For example, fast
prefix searches can be implemented by indexing text into two fields, one with the full terms
and one with edge-ngrams enabled; to do proximity searches against terms and prefixes, you could
wrap a term query against the ngrammed field so that its intervals appear to come from the
normal field, and use it an an ordered or unordered interval.

This is analogous to the FieldMaskingSpanQuery, but has the advantage that we don't use term
statistics for scoring interval queries, so there is no issue with mixing up field weights
from different fields.
