Subject [ANN] Solr book: Instant Apache Solr for Indexing Data How-to
Date Tue, 11 Jun 2013 13:17:18 GMT

I have just published a new mini-book with Packt Publishing, called
"Instant Apache Solr for Indexing Data How-to": . The
examples from the book are available from Packt or from .

It is targeted at the beginners and intermediate developers with the
core focus on getting Data into the Solr. And since without data in
Solr, there is nothing to search, I think this book has a very broad
target audience.

The people who will benefit most from it are those who managed to get
their first install working by cloning example distribution and are
now not sure how to build their first _real_ schema.

Even though this is a mini book, it covers most - indexing-related -
issues in the latest version on Solr, including multilingual content
indexing, DIH, recent UpdateRequestHandlers, Near-Real-Time and so on.
In fact, the earliest version of Solr it runs with is 4.3, as I have
accidentally found bugs in all prior releases of Solr 4. :-(

The book is dirt cheap and it is even on discount right now. There is
absolutely no reason not to get it. And if you have any comments on
the material, I welcome any comments in private or in public. Or pull
request if there is a mistake in an example.

Finally, I wanted to say thank you to this mailing list's participants
for answering all my early and ongoing questions. Without you, this
book would not have happened. The book is partially my way to pay

P.s. I would love to have the book featured on the Solr's homepage
banner. Any ideas how?
