Michael, thank you for your answer.

You mean using HttpCommonsSolrServer? I thought of that, but I don't see the point of going
through the network when I'm running in the same JVM/box as the main Solr server.
I still would like a solution to my issue, since so far EmbeddedSolrServer works fine for
me.
