401 error when adding M2 POM via password protected https URL

                 Key: CONTINUUM-957
             Project: Continuum
          Issue Type: Bug
         Environment: Darwin: Linux ******* 2.6.16-2-amd64-k8-smp #1 SMP Fri Aug 18 21:10:33
CEST 2006 x86_64 GNU/Linux
            Reporter: Martin Burger

My Maven 2 POM is located on a secured SVN server (Apache WebDAV https). In order to download
/ checkout that and other files, you need an username and a password. So, I added the following
URL (Add Maven 2.0+ Project -> M2 POM Url -> Submit):

But Continuum complains about a 401 error, that file does not exsit. If I browse that URL
with my brower, I can downoad it.

Afterwards, I tried the URL with http instead of https. Important: the server cannot be connected
through http, only via https! Now, Continuum is able to download that file - although it cannot
be possible to estalish a connection via http.
