Subject [jira] Commented: (MPLUGIN-40) All plugins should by default have an auto-generated goal 'help'
Date Sun, 03 Feb 2008 16:30:59 GMT

Marcello Teodori commented on MPLUGIN-40:

I'm using the 2.4-SNAPSHOT version from the snapshot plugin repo at:

but I cannot understand how to use it, I am trying for example:
  mvn surefire:help
  mvn surefire:helpmojo

expecting some output along the lines of:
  mvn help:describe -Dplugin=surefire -Dfull

Anyway I think that a property trigger for this feature would make much more sense. It should
be possible to activate it in the general settings.xml instead of modifying each and every
pom.xml for something that is more about the build system than it is specific to the project.

I would also really love the help output to be much more human-friendly than the one produced
by the help plugin...

This should be auto-generated if it doesn't already exist as a goal in the mojo. The autogenerated
help should typically list the goals (and settable properties) of the plugin, and probably
also print out the url to the plugin's website (if available). This will most likely affect
the plugin archetype as well, I guess.
