I believe I am seeing the same thing while compiling trunk of GeoServer ( running mvn clean
install -Pweb2 )

java -version
java version "1.5.0_18"

Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 1.5.0_18-b02, mixed mode)

mvn -version
Maven version: 2.0.10
