---------------------------------------

       Resolution: Fixed
    Fix Version/s:     (was: Backlog)
                   2.7
         Assignee: Kristian Rosenvold

Fixed in r1042246

Add the required provider as a dependency to surefire to force its use:
       <plugin>
                <groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
                <artifactId>maven-surefire-plugin</artifactId>
                <version>${surefire.version}</version>
                <dependencies>
                    <dependency>
                        <groupId>org.apache.maven.surefire</groupId>
                        <artifactId>surefire-junit47</artifactId>
                        <version>${surefire.version}</version>
                    </dependency>
                </dependencies>
            </plugin>

> It would be nice if you could force the maven surefire plugin to only use a specific
provider.
> Currently, it checks if a test extends junit.framework.Test. If it is, it assumes its
a junit test case. This is not always the case. It could still be a testng test.
> if (junit.framework.Test.class.isAssignableFrom( c )) {
>                 junitTestClasses.add( c );
>             } else {
>                 testNgTestClasses.add( c );
>             }
