By 3DES you most likely mean DES-EDE, in which case it is in the JDK
since 1.4.  It's called "DESede" for the algorithm name so it is often
assumed not present because of the less familiar, yet more accurate,
algorithm name.  From the JCE guide:

"Throughout this document, the terms "Triple DES" and "DES-EDE" will
be used interchangeably."
