A working spell for option b) is
find . -exec grep -q "edu.emory.mathcs.backport.java." '{}' \; -print | 
xargs -n1 sed -i s/edu.emory.mathcs.backport.java.//

invoked in the mina installation directory.
Is there an easy way rebuild the jars from the local java source using 
maven? The default target started downloading lots of stuff.
