Enis Soztutar commented on PHOENIX-8:
-------------------------------------

bq. Our current plan is put Jeffrey's work in a 4.0 line. We'll release the 3.0 before 4.0,
and everything in 3.0 will be in 4.0. We'll try to maintain 3.x in parallel with 4.x where
the 3.x works on HBase 0.94 and the 4.x works on HBase 0.96 +
I think this is fine. The only catch would be that I think this assumes that 0.94 support
would be dropped before another major version bump.
I was thinking that there is also some value with having 2.2 bits working over HBase-0.96
which is basically backporting Jeff changes, and doing a 2-3.x-hbase-0.96 kind of release
because we can rely on 2.2 being a stable release. But I am not that familiar with the code
base of Phoenix, so take my suggestions with a grain of salt.

> Given the GitHub hosted Phoenix project is already up to the release series 2.0.x, I
propose the first version of Phoenix released under the Apache roof should be 3.0.0.
