Andrew Stitcher commented on QPID-3883:
---------------------------------------

Using a simple modified qpid-perftest which adds headers to messages:

With 10 headers added the performance drops approximately from 110,000 Msg/s to 55,000 Msg/s
(1k Msgs)

(A pretty severe slowdown)

> Messages that have application headers have a very high overhead compared to messages
that don't have application headers.
> There are multiple causes of this problem:
> * Messages are copied unnecessarily in the client code
> * Encoding/decoding FieldTables is inefficient
> * Encoding/decoding FieldTables is done unnecessarily
> * Copying FieldTables is inefficient
> * The mapping of Variants to the current underlying FieldTable implementation may be
inefficient
