Subject [jira] [Commented] (QPID-4263) HA broker can crash due to priority queue corruption
Date Fri, 07 Sep 2012 20:04:07 GMT

Alan Conway commented on QPID-4263:

MessageDeque::setPosition(n) only erases messages *after* n. According to the precondition
for setPosition, there cannot be any un-deleted messages after n so this is OK.
> HA broker can crash due to priority queue corruption
> ----------------------------------------------------
>                 Key: QPID-4263
>                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/QPID-4263
>             Project: Qpid
>          Issue Type: Bug
>          Components: C++ Broker
>    Affects Versions: 0.18
>            Reporter: Jason Dillaman
> Similar to QPID-4262 and discovered via code review while investigating the other issue,
it appears that it is possible for the priority queue's "messages" deques to become out-of-sync
with their backing "fifo" deque if "PriorityQueue::setPosition" is invoked. That method will
delete messages from the backing MessageDeque collection without removing the pointers to
the deleted messages from the PriorityQueue.
> The HA and replication plugins can both invoke this method on a queue.
