I have certainly thought for a while that we should move to implementing all the test scripts
in python.

(I don't know if it was me that suggested it in your hearing though)

This indeed has been som of the rationale for centralising functionality in a single script
(even is it isn't python yet) so we get an idea of what we need to implement.
