This is a micro-optimization without any benchmarks to even
show it is 1% faster in an ideal case, let alone a real one.

Write the thing, see how people use it, and optimize that
case.  The proposed syntax just makes it harder to use for 
no proven benefit.  Wondering about the extra function call
overhead that might happen if people actually use it is
silly.

I bring it up because premature optimization has come up
several times regarding psp.

Don't think of this as a flame (though it is).  Think of
it as a reality check.  If you take a look at python-dev
proposed optimizations have to either be free (benefit and
no downside) or provide much more benefit in speed than the
downside they cause in pain.  And no change happens until
someone _proves_ the old way was slower in the first place
with actual, real life benchmarks.
