Subject [jira] [Commented] (SENTRY-359) Support Sentry service API to retrieve applicable privileges for a given authorizable object
Date Tue, 19 Aug 2014 18:57:29 GMT

Prasad Mujumdar commented on SENTRY-359:
----------------------------------------

This would require the Sentry service to extract the child object from Hive metastore or for
non-DB object this would be from some other repository.
An alternative could be to support a bulk fetch API where call provides a list of objects
and Sentry will return a map of object name to all privileges. Here the client is responsible
for extracting the child objects. Sentry will only manage it's own metadata lookup.

> The current implementation of list_sentry_privileges_for_provider is specifically to
facilitate Sentry auth engine. It's not intended to be a general purpose metadata query.
> We should add a new API that returns the list of privileges (TSentryPrivilege) for the
give authorizable object and all it's applicable privileges.
