Subject [jira] [Created] (SQOOP-1307) Sqoop writes all the logs to STDERR
Date Tue, 15 Apr 2014 21:00:16 GMT
Abhijeet Apsunde created SQOOP-1307:

Summary: Sqoop writes all the logs to STDERR
                 Key: SQOOP-1307
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SQOOP-1307
             Project: Sqoop
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: connectors/generic
    Affects Versions: 1.4.2
         Environment: RHEL 6.4
            Reporter: Abhijeet Apsunde
            Priority: Minor

I'm working on an application that must make use of Sqoop console logs to capture some metric.
I'm parsing console output to extract some metric like rows fetched, time taken etc. I would
also like to look for exceptions and check type and description of exception.

I observed that Sqoop outputs a merged stream of STDERR and STDOUT on STDERR. Is this by
design ? Is their a command line switch to specify that I need separate STDOUT and ERR and
not a merged one ?
